Indiana Jones review
Due to the entire review being spoilers, I am linking to it here. Click here if you want to read it, but know that it could very well spoil the movie for you if you read it before seeing it. I am expecting that you've seen it or don't care when you read my review =o)
You were pretty fair... I'll have to talk to you about it since I don't have the time to write a review right now... perhaps I need to see it again too.
While I thought Aliens was kinda weak, it does fit in with the mythos of the Indy series. Tackling the strange, absurd, unkown and tying it in with El Durado (city of gold) and all that fit pretty well.
Again, I wasn't a huge fan of the aliens either, but sitting back and thinking about it, I decided it did fit with the mythos of Indy... even if I thought it was kind of dumb. They did a good job tying in the "current events" of the era, with the Roswell crash site and the Red Scare and the like, so overall I have to say the movie not only "felt" like an Indy movie, but definitely fits within the canon of the Indy series.
I did think the waterfall/tree swinging sequence was definitely the most unbelievable and hokey, but lets not forget Dr. Jones once jumped out of an airplane and parachuted to safety using a life raft, and stopped a tank canon by shoving a rock in the barrel... so you know what you are getting in to when you see an Indy film - check realism at the door.
Finally, while Iron Man was definitely a GOOD comic book movie, it is hardly the best. First of all, Batman Begins is THE standard for good comic book movies, heck, even if it wasn't a comic book movie it was just a fantastic movie PERIOD. Also lets not forget the original X-Men, it had so much character development and setup, stayed true to the universe it was set in, and all in all was a FANTASTIC movie.
I will put Iron Man in my top 5 comic book movies, but it definitely isn't #1.
Pretty much completely agree with you. Indy has always been a bit hokey but the monkey seen was for lack of a better word, stupid. All and all a decent experience though, as you said. It's Indy.
As for Iron Man, while it was good, I have seen a number comic based movies that I liked more. Then again we have already counted the comics I have read and have found that number pitifully lacking...
